Little Houses
I feel like this is a story from someone’s childhood. A childhood spent traveling (even if it was just a short walk) to be with Grandpa and Grandma by the ocean.
The illustrations are realistic yet a bit dreamy and well done. The writing is simple, so it’s probably a story for the younger range of little ones. The story isn’t quite as simple as the writing, as the narrative does add thoughts and questions that the little girl has as she goes through her day at the beach, so it can entertain somewhat older little ones too.
The combination of the descriptive walk through the day at the beach with the thoughts and questions of the little girl could stimulate the imagination of a little one and provide an opportunity for a little learning about the beach, the ocean, the seashells, the birds and so on, if the reader wants to add a little knowledge of their own. My little one started thinking through questions of her own in response to the story. It also makes this an interesting book for a child that does not live near water.
