Apple Cake a Gratitude

We had high hopes for this book. We found it off a list of books that were supposed to be like one of our absolute favorites. It had a lot going for it. We rarely comment on this aspect, but the book is a high quality book. The drawings are very well done - drawn realistically, colorful, and wispy or dreamy. The book has a wonderful sentiment, to be thankful and the book ends with what looks like a yummy apple cake recipe (we haven’t tried it yet).

But still, we were disappointed. When we got it and read it, we finished it in honestly a minute or two. There is no story to the book. In fact, there’s almost no words at all. There’s just a repetition of “be thankful…” for mostly the various ingredients of the apple cake. And that’s it.

If you desire something pretty and simple for your little one, it’s not a bad book. It’s just not one that will ever make our favorites list.
