The Popcorn Book
We found this book suggested in an old rerun of “Reading Rainbow,” a show I loved as a kid and thought I’d share with my little one.
The book is filled with facts about a random topic, popcorn, made clear by the title. It’s the sole focus of the entire story. There’s discussion of the types of popcorn, history of popcorn, how to store it, how to make it, how different people with different backgrounds prepare it, fun folklore, and more. It even has two “recipes” at the end for making popcorn.
The illustrations are cartoony, but cute. We found them to be well done in the style presented.
Cautions: The book touches on a time in history that people nowadays can’t seem to agree on how to look at it, when European settlers reached America, but we found the story to be apolitical, respectful of both the Europeans and the Americans.
